This is phonics at its best: synthetic phonics, which not only teaches letter-sound correspondences, but also how to blend those sounds when reading. The games provide FUN practice of the "basic code" of written English, as well as alternate spellings of many of the vowel sounds (e.g. ai/ay/a-e).
